Explanation
Hi Hanay. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. When you want to delete a file with the {{Delete}} template, you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion. Alternatively, you can click the "Nominate for deletion" link in the left sidebar, under the "tools" section, which does all of the work for you. Please do one of these, otherwise you create a lot of work for other people. If you don't see the "Nominate for deletion" link in the left sidebar, you can use the JavaScript method of enabling AjaxQuickDelete on Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets once and then refresh once. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:11, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- Jeff G., Hanay created Category:Unrises from Nesher mistakenly instead of Category:Sunrises from Nesher. She added the template {{Delete}} and explained in the edit summary "opened by mistake". I don't think that the title "Warning" is proper her. It should be deleted as bad name or author request. It should not be redirected. -- Geagea (talk) 06:03, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
- As Geagea wrote. The title "Warning" is not nice. you can write explanation. Hanay (talk) 09:45, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Geagea and Hanay: I'm sorry if I overstepped. For months, I have been railing against incomplete deletion requests, which are caused by malformed use of {{Delete}} templates and lack of follow-through, and which are populating Category:Incomplete deletion requests and subcats. This problem spurred the creation of that category 17:57, 1 February 2007 (UTC), nearly 14 years ago, and my tracking of it 18:16, 14 November 2020 (UTC), over two months ago. ColorfulSmoke was blocked 17:07, 29 December 2020 (UTC) by Mdaniels5757 with an expiration time of 3 days (account creation blocked) for "Continuing to make malformed deletion requests despite repeated instructions; not responding to concerns on talk page" pursuant to the discussion archived at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections/Archive 29#ColorfulSmoke. My warning was based on this edit, also by Mdaniels5757, and also with the title "Warning". In particular, Hanay did not: use {{G7}}; include the year, month or day in {{Delete}}; and create the DR. Because she did not create the DR, she had no opportunity to further: include a section header in the DR; transclude the DR in the daily log; and notify the author of the DR. I will use speedy deletions citing COM:CSD#G7 and the underlying edits for future attempted deletions of improperly and implausibly spelled category names. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 16:47, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
- Jeff G. I would appreciate, if you will change the title of this paragraph from "warning" to " explanation". Thanks. Hanay (talk) 16:59, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
- Done. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 17:06, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
- Jeff G., Just a remark. {{Delete}} is legitimately in Commons. Using that template not violate any of Commons rules. If you think that users should not use that template just nominate the template to delation. And always remember that this project is multilingual project and you should offer a simple way to ask whatever to be deleted that will be simple enough to use also for non-native English speakers. -- Geagea (talk) 04:08, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

I use many carefully selected (and properly attributed) wikimedia images in my website (alamapa.com - a site dedicated to biblical geography) and I just noticed that many of them (currently 13) we taken by you - e.g. in http://alamapa.com/location/%d7%99%d7%a7%d7%a0%d7%a2%d7%9d, http://alamapa.com/location/%d7%9c%d7%91%d7%a0%d7%aa, and others. I would like to take the opportunity and thank you for contributing such high level images of locations in Israel. Thanks! Aaadir (talk) 20:57, 7 March 2021 (UTC) |
- Hi User:Aaadir, this is very nice. I checked your website and I found also that there is no credit at all to me under the pictures. So, you are violate my copyright. I aske you to add under every picture of mine that the photographer is Hana Yariv, or at least Hanay as my user name on Wikimedia Commons. Thank you Hanay (talk) 02:37, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Hanay. I'm sorry you didn't see the credits. All the images in alamapa including your photographs do in fact credit their creator or/and photographer. As explained in the home page (http://alamapa.com) and figures-help page (http://alamapa.com/helpfigures), the credit appears at the bottom of every image via the (i) symbol that appears there. Pressing this (i) symbol gives a summary of the credit and license, and also a link to the original wikimedia page with the full info on the image. I checked your images again just to make sure, and the credit to you is indeed there. Please check the above two examples images again and let me know if there is a problem. If you are not happy with this arrangement (deemed sufficient by wikimedia advisor), please let me know and I'll regretfully remove your images (though I would be very sad if it comes to that). Thanks again, --Aaadir (talk) 06:21, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- User:Geagea What do you think about it? Thank you.

Hi Hanay. I'm sorry again for having caused such trouble, especially since I really love your pictures so much. As far as copyright law, as you said, I'm pretty sure that I'm fine, because I also took a copyright attorney some time ago to review all the copyright aspects of alamapa.com and he didn't have any comment about this crediting method. I think even in Wikipedia only the image description appears below the image (as it does in alamapa) usually not the text of the credit, and one needs to press a (perhaps more noticeable) symbol to get to the wikimedia page with the creator/license info.
So the remaining issue is being fair to the creators and aesthetic considerations. From the point of view of web design I wouldn't like to clutter the page with too much additional text beyond the image description. I therefore added an explanation of this (i) symbol at the bottom of all the images in (1) the home page (2) the figures help menu accessible from every page in alamapa.com, and (3) the legal issues page. Also I think that if someone visits the website for educational purposes a few times it will be clear that the (i) symbol is there in ALL the images. I understand your frustration however that you were not able to notice it on your first time so I can try to make it a bit larger, or maybe use some other symbol so it becomes more noticeable, or maybe set it so that pressing anywhere on the image would lead to the same info as pressing the (i) symbol? Still, even though I'm probably legally fine, if you feel you are not getting credit for your images by this method I would totally understand and would, very regretfully, drop the images. --Aaadir (talk) 07:34, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi Hanay, Geagea. Ok so I think I'll follow Geagea's comments at least in part, and follow Wikipedia's scheme so that, beyond the sometimes fuzzy symbol, when the user presses the image itself the credit/license info is shown and a link to the wikimedia page with the detailed info is given. Again, as in wikipedia, I wouldn't like to have the credit/license info appear all the time, but only when the image or symbol is pressed, to avoid clutter. Hanay - if this improvement is acceptable to you I'll be glad to keep using your images. Thanks for your advice. --Aaadir (talk) 10:26, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
Category:Milk_processing_at_ancient_time
Milk processing at ancient time has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
